OK, I recently bought this film, because I saw an old intro from USA's "Saturday Nightmares" which featured this film. I vaguely remembered it, and after seeing it again, it's easy to understand why I forgot it lol.

This film is, incredibly, cheesy to the Nth degree. It's terrible in every facet possible. However, there's just something appealing, to me, about these, unintentionally, funny horror films, with the worst acting, horrible and boring dialect and cheesiest effects possible.

The film makes little sense, and just seems to drag along forever. Honestly, the more I watch it, the more I enjoy it, but then again, my mind is warped like no other. So unless you enjoy really terrible, cheesy, 80's schlock, I wouldn't recommend it.

80's cheese at it's worst!

This movie, trying to incorporate some pieces of Lovecraftian lore into its cheap, brittle storyline, was an utter travesty. Besides having a budget that barely rivaled the popcorn and drink ingested during its showing, its ties to the otherworldly menace, Yog Kothag, and the essentially useless book, The Necronomicon, were simply veiled attempts to bring in viewers. It was, by and far, an insult to my horror-watching eyes.

The storyline, if you can call the bumbling plot that the wretched actors follow a story, is as follows:

We start with a fortune teller as he reads a client's cards. What he sees frightens him enough that he funnels her money back into her hands (plus thirty dollars), pushes her out the door abruptly to be killed, and then runs into a monster that couldn't rival most Halloween costumes. Cut to a foolish guy, joined by his pregnant girlfriend, his brother, and three others, as they meet at a cabin in the middle of nowhere to discuss his newest invention (an emergency grappling hook that straps to your wrist, the dumbest idea I've ever been privy to). Here, they get drunk, play cards, fire off some banter that does incorporate a bit of humor, and subsequently start the dying one by one. Still, he gets away and is hit by a car, landing himself in the running for the stupidest man alive awards and on the trek to torment some movie watchers. Later, skipping a heap of the bumbling plot, he is joined by a detective that knows something is going on, a lady that also lived through an attack by this presence by hiding under her porch for days, and a one-hundred year old dog that really didn't mean anything in the movie except that there was a way to burn more time. Together they find out that there is a ghost quasar pulsing to the murderous beat of the thing doing the killings, that some monstrous creature named Yog Kothag is trying to come back, that the Necronomicon only has a dozen pages, that you can add a zombie into a movie just because you feel like it, and that a lack of research before you make a movie can always be countered by a good ceremonial dagger.

Yes, this movie was bad. If you have to check it out because you have some Lovecraftian completionist need, you'll hate it. If you like cheap horror movies, you'll hate it. I don't even think the people who made it like it.

When an investigating official somberly invokes the name of Charles Manson, he inadvertently gives Manson credit for having enough taste to find this film appalling. Speaking for all humans, I strongly agree. "Forever Evil" is a marginally coherent low budget monster movie that not only features terrible acting, a dreadful script, and inept special effects, but it also succumbs to a numbingly slow pace that makes the four hours of "entertainment" featured here seem to take weeks to plow through. You may need external support to make it all the way to the end. Please drink responsibly.

The movie starts in an old cabin where several completely unlikable college friends are having an extremely lame party complete with horrid dialogue and subplots about a new invention and an unintended pregnancy. In the middle of the party, pregnant Holly (Diane Johnson) decides she can't live another minute without showering. As we all know, showering leads to murder. Holly is slaughtered in the bathroom by an unknown entity, and instead of calling the police immediately, these college graduates go hunting for the killer. The carnage that ensues leaves only Marc (Red Mitchell), Holly's ex-boyfriend alive, but hospitalized. Leo (Charles Trotter), the old crusty cop in the trenchcoat who responds to the scene says things like "It doesn't look like the head was cut off, it looks like it was pulled off". At this point you may note that you still have over an hour and a half to go. I feel for you. The film meanders over hill and dale for a while with Marc teaming up with a girl named Reggie (Tracey Huffman) who is interested in the case because she once had something similar happen to her. Whatever.

Through the magic of special effects, the evil of the title makes his first appearance as a pair of glowing red eyes in a black cowl. During the course of the investigation some creepy old witchcraft books are found, along with a story about a ceremonial dagger used for sacrifices that have been occurring for many years in a pattern only Marc understands. After a friendly black dog scares Reggie repeatedly, Marc gives the backstory about the party at the cabin. (Question: why does Marc wear a bathrobe with four stripes around the ends of the sleeves like a ship or airline Captain?) The reason for the party was to celebrate commencing the patent search for a device that Marc and his brother designed called the "Emergency Grappling System" (EGS). This thing looks like it just came off the utility belt of Batman, only it's far less plausible. Because it's such an otherwise pointless plot deviation, you know the EGS will play a crucial role later in the film.

Marc has also figured out that the evil creature kills when there is a huge pulse of energy from the "Q8 Ghost Quasar", a claim Leo is rightfully skeptical of. After zombie-Holly returns to haunt Marc with a self-Cesarean and red-eyed demonic birth scene (the special effects are beyond cut rate), Leo is killed by the evil. Marc and Reggie discover that the next Q8 quasar pulse will be "next Thursday", and engineer a plan to use themselves as bait, which, of course, succeeds. Marc astutely notices a pattern in the homicides on the map, which the trained professional law enforcement officials have not noticed despite it's being completely obvious upon first glance by anyone in the audience. Of course the pattern is a pentagram, which Marc immediately calls a "pentagon". The evil (with the worst rubber mask worn in any movie since at least 1950: think "Tales From the Crypt", only cheesy) finds the hapless duo and a lengthy rumble ensues. Obviously the EGS is employed to good effect, as is an ax, some gasoline, a gun, and the magic dagger. It sounds like it would be exciting, but don't believe it. The brawl moves to Marc and Reggie's motel room, where the now charred-to-a-crisp evil being stabs Marc with the magic dagger, although Marc turns the tables on him, and in a retaliatory strike, stabs the evil being.

So that's the end, right? So sorry, no.

It turns out that there's an immortal ghost Realtor (born in 1874) who is actually the mastermind in bringng evil back during the Q8 quasar pulses. He confronts Reggie and says things like "One of the requirements is that you die in terror, for which I really do apologize". He is quite proud of himself for recruiting Marc to be his new killer zombie. Because of their newfound and painfully expressed love, Marc saves Reggie in a startling conclusion that will surprise nobody, but is easily the best scene in the movie, as it is signals the film's end.

There are several versions of this available on DVD, and sadly mine contained both the "Director's Cut" and the "Home Video Premier Cut" as well as trailers, still photos, and a director's commentary that requires real mental toughness to get through. If you absolutely insist on seeing this film, I recommend the "Home Video Premier Cut" as it is seven minutes shorter. A better option, though, is to not watch either of them. Ever.

Honest reviews on Forever Evil

FOREVER EVIL is an appropriate title, as the film may possibly be the longest and most uneventful Horror entries ever made. After his friends are killed by an undead monster, Marc must set out to destroy the evil lurking in the forest with the help of a young photographer that escaped the terror years earlier herself. It is impossible to overlook the staged scripting and horrific acting even though the film was made on a a limited budget. The emotionless characters turn the otherwise serious tone into an unintentionally hilarious mess as they calmly discover each of their closest friends and lovers brutally murdered without so much as flinching. Evans liberally borrows from THE EVIL DEAD series, ineffectively incorporating a mish-mash of evil forest spirits, zombies, and possessed foliage while also attempting to employ similar camera techniques. The plot fumbles around aimlessly for over an hour as the characters search for the source of the evil, which drives the pacing to a halt and offers no action or thrills. A few bloody gore scenes and decent low-budget make-up FX serve as the only redeeming qualities in this otherwise tiring Indie Horror effort.

Okay, the HPL fan inside overrode reason and I bought this film off of ebay. It is truly a bad, terribly made low budget horror. But, in the long run aren't most of them?

It did have a Lovecraftian theme, but not really enough to warrant the money I spent (it wasn't very available when I got it, so I was ripped off.....in my opinion, 5 dollars is ripped off with this stinker)

I thought it sucked, but I guess you'll have to decide for yourself.

I don't get the people who trash these movies. What are they expecting? The RE series has never been about superb storytelling, characterization, and acting. It's about style and excitement! And that's what these movies are: High-octane action movies for guys. Especially their inner 14-year olds.

People here spend a lot of time trashing the RE movies, and this movie in particular. Why? It delivers what I've come to expect here. Some awesome action sequences, an interesting (albeit completely nonsensical) storyline, and some really incredible cinematography. What else do you want? I submit that if that's not good enough for you, then you're just watching the wrong kind of movie.

Those who trash the story of Resident Evil: Retribution as "the worst of the lot", or whatever, need to go watch something else. It is what it is. I for one think it is excellent!

I like how the storylines of the movies continue from movie to movie, which each one ending in a cliffhanger. You never know what the next movie will bring! Yeah, the story is complete garbage. But that's what's enjoyable about it! Invite a few friends, have a beer, put your brain firmly in the "off position", and enjoy!

And there's a lot to enjoy here. The awesomeness that is Milla Jovovich cannot be denied. Sure, the character of Alice is weak, and in this movie, she turns into Ripley. But when she's killing zombies with a chain and pistol, it's so awesome I don't care. My brain says, "This sucks." My inner 14-year old says, "THIS IS AWESOME, DUDE!" That's what happens, man. If you want to enjoy it, you just have to surrender to the awesome.

The movie has a lot of interesting ideas. I also like that it took a lot of elements from the RE 4 video game, which I loved. Leon Kennedy is here, and so is Ada Wong. They both certainly look the part, although their characterization is actually STRONGER in the video game than in the movie! Here, they're just generic action heroes, but I'm okay with that.

Another cool element from RE 4 (the game) was the introduction of the Los Plagues (sp?) virus. A lot of people were confused by the zombie nazi's driving jeeps. But in the context of RE 4, this makes more sense. In that game, a small European village was taken over by the Los Plagues virus. It doesn't turn people into zombies exactly rather it changes their insides to be like bugs and changes their minds. So they still can operate weapons and such. And some of them were clothed in military style uniforms, same as the game and movie. If you haven't played the game, then this doesn't make so much sense. I thought it was a pretty cool tie-in.

Another thing I am really liking about the this movie and also "Afterlife" is the 3D. The 3D in these movies is really well done. Out of all the 3D movies in my collection, those two movies probably have the best 3D of all, and that's really saying something. Again, it just shows how good these movies are when it comes to the cinematography.

So the final verdict? Resident Evil: Retribution is awesome! It is my favorite of all the RE movies so far. Those who say it is "the worst" just don't know what they're talking about. They're watching the wrong type of movie, expecting the wrong things. I watch these movies with only a few expectations: Excellent fight choreography, excellent cinematography, and an interesting story (that I don't expect will make sense). This movie delivers on ALL THREE of those. And it sets things up nicely for RE 6.

So don't listen to the haters. This is not Oscar-worthy material. It doesn't pretend to be. It is a mindless-junk action movie for the mindless-junk action movie lover's soul! And it totally rocks.

Peace!

Resident Evil Retribution 3D Review: Even better 3D than RE: Afterlife

Resident Evil doesn't cater to non-action fans, and Resident Evil Retribution proves this point with it's non-stop action onslaught from the opening credits to the ending.

STEREO 3D:

The 3D in Resident Evil Retribution delivers in spades, being filmed in three dimensions with on the set 3D camera rigs, we get a consistency of powerfully layered visuals, with clear stereo 3D distance between the objects onscreen. There are also plenty of pop outs to flinch away from as bullets and blades fly out of the screen to great effect. This is one of the best 3D movies you can get as Anderson shows he's not only a master of action movies, but stereo 3D scene composition. So if you're looking for another demo worthy 3D disc, look no further than Resident Evil Retribution, boosting the 3D up even more than Resident Evil Afterlife 3D. Exceptional 3D.

STORY:

This movie plays with your head sort of like Inception did, never letting you really know what's going on till about midway when Alice is finally let in on the reality of the situation. A bit jarring at first, but very unique for a RE Film. That aside, the story is fairly basic, from point A to B with some side stories thrown in for good measure. Finally, this fifth RE movie does a nice job paying tribute to the previous RE films in many ways as you'll see.

ACTION:

If you know the Resident Evil series, you'll know there's usually a heavy emphasis on full on action. Retribution lives up to the term "Roller Coaster" by providing nearly non-stop action, literally. Just when Alice (Milla Jovovich) finishes on action scene, another enemy shows up and attacks, leaving little room for story development in between. So think of it as a total @ss kicking action movie made for your entertainment along the lines of The Expendables 2 and you'll enjoy it.

The action sequences are incredible in terms of martial arts choreography (especially the opening attack on Alice in the white halls = amazing mix of roundhouse kicks, flipping, tossing, locking, cracking heads, chain flicking and shooting).

Then there's guns blazing every few seconds, Zombie attacks in the Suburbs, Las Plagas "Smart shooting zombies from the RE 4 game" confrontations in Moscow, fast speed car chases, stalking Licker monsters, giant butcher Axe Men attacks in the city, and an ending arctic fight scene that goes on for a glorious five minutes at least. All done with explosions, special FX and splattering blood better than before. Incredible action.

ACTING:

Milla Jovovich (Aice) and a number of returning members including Michelle Rodriguez (Rain) deliver their lines with a relaxed believability that comes off as genuine. The roles of Ada Wong and Jill Valentine however, are a bit robotic, perhaps intentionally but still mildly distracting, as they were/are under the control of Umbrella. Leon makes an appearance, but again, some of the delivery of his lines could have been more natural. Otherwise, well done.

SOUNDTRACK: TomandAndy return from Resident Evil Afterlife and compose another great industrial electronic film score that rocks and beats along with the action. Excellent and worth a purchase for the soundtrack again.

SUMMARY:

If you're a Resident Evil Fan of any of the films, this is highly recommended. One of most visceral, guns blazing action movies I've ever seen, despite the basic plot. Paul WS Anderson keeps getting better at delivering stylized, action packed movies.

MOVIE: 9/10 Wow. Incredible example of an all out action movie.

STORY: 7/10 Very basic Point A to B with some side stories added

ACTION: 10/10. Amazing and beautifully composed. Movie is 80% slick action.

SPECIAL FX: 9/10. Great monsters, explosions, fx, but zombies are mostly fresh.

STEREO 3D: 9/10. It doesn't get much better. Most shots shine for 3D.

OVERALL: 9/10. If you love action and powerful 3D, don't pass it up.

I enjoyed Resident Evil Retribution more than any other Res. Evil. It exceeded my expectations, its a great action flick. The fight sequences were great, of course Alice does some mega moves on her enemies but shes Alice. :) It keeps your attention from start to finish. I did not see in 3D none the less I was 110% satisfied. I pressume 3D effects would have made it 100x better.

"Resident Evil: Retribution" is pretty good. This is how the story goes: The Umbrella Corporation's deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race's last and only hope, Alice, awakens in the heart of Umbrella's most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

The cast led by Milla Jovovich (as Alice), Michelle Rodriguez (as Rain) & Sienna Guillory (as Jill Valentine) is pretty good. The directing & story & screenplay by Paul W.S. Anderson (who also produced) is pretty good.

The music by tomandandy is pretty good. The cinematography by Glen MacPherson is pretty good. The film editing by Niven Howie is pretty good. The casting by Deirdre Bowen is pretty good. The production design by Kevin Phipps is pretty good. The art direction by Dennis Davenport & Dan Yarhi is pretty good. The set decoration by Steve Shewchuk, set design by Evan Webber & Douglas Slater is pretty good. The costume design by Wendy Partridge is pretty good. The make-up effects design & supervised by Paul Jones is pretty good. The special effects coordinated by Tony Kenny is pretty good. The visual effects coordinated by Sarah Barber, Michael DiCarlo, Becca Donohoe, Matt Glover, Benjamin Mossman & Yi Yang, supervised by Dave Axford, Dennis Berardi, Jeff Campbell, Rob Del Ciancio & Jorge Razon is pretty good. The stunts coordinated by Nick Powell & Brett Chan (who also choreographed the fights, as well) is pretty good.

This is a pretty good sequel & movie that is just as good as the first four movies were. It is an action-packed, fun and fast-paced ride that is entertaining and well-done. Milla Jovovich is a pretty good action heroine and her husband-director has made another fast-paced action film that keeps you entertained.

Sequels are sometimes good, but most times not. This sequel is terrible. I just bought the original "Hoodwinked" because I loved it and have seen it at least 3 or 4 times. I have recommended it to many people. When part "Too" came out, I saw it in the theater, I was so excited about it. Man, was I blow away by how poor it was. All the ineresting angles and approach of the original was gone... it was just another animated kids movie with straight-forward, predictable plot. I recall chuckling a couple times... that is it.

I am sorry to give this such a low rating, but, to make up for that, I highly recommend you go buy the original Hoodwinked... you will be happy you did. (Just try to resist the temptation to follow up the watching of that great movie with watching this sequel.)

Note: I am a father of several small kids. I hated Hoodwinked Too (as you can tell); but my kids liked it... so I give it two stars as the average of my 0 star rating and my kids 4 stars. If you are just getting it for the kids, it could be worth it.

Terrible sequel. All of the humor and wit of the original is gone. Parents save the money and put it in your kid's piggy bank.

Best Deals for Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil (2011)

While the original "Hoodwinked" might not be my favorite movie of skewed fairy tales (that place in my heart belongs to Shrek), it was a clever colliding of movie styles. With four character narratives intersecting and intertwining, the film played as an amusing riff on "Rashomon" and even "Pulp Fiction" for the animated set. It was a bit uneven, but it worked largely by pushing the boundaries with a great concept. Eschewing the charm and most of the laughs of its predecessor, the 3-D sequel "Hoodwinked Too!" arrives in an impressive DVD package. However, the film itself is all concept and no heart. But what's worse--it boasts a terrific cast of comedic vocal talent, but lacks a real sense of humor. I wanted to like this movie, truly I did, but ultimately I just didn't care about the characters.

Set in the aftermath of the first movie, your favorites (Red, Granny, Wolf, Twitchy) are back and part of a elite special forces unit. Called in to rescue Hansel and Gretel from a wicked witch, the mission goes seriously awry leading to Granny being kidnapped. It's all part of a nefarious plan to get the secret ingredient for a truffle that will instill great power to those that eat it. Desperate to save Granny, Red and the crew head to the big city to do battle with ultimate evil. The plot is pleasantly silly, but the screenplay is not. Everything is staged as a loud action set piece which we're supposed to find hilarious. Look, there's Granny doing flips--ha ha. Look at Red bungee jump--hilarious. I wanted more effort to be given to the characters. Make me care and make me laugh by what they have to say. Or if it's all going to be sight gags, make them genuinely funny.

The invaluable Patrick Warburton has only a few laughs as Wolf (which is a crime in itself, the guy is genuinely hysterical), but does what he can with the material. Bill Hader and Amy Poehler get the best lines as Hansel and Gretel. Joan Cusack gives a reliably sturdy performance as the wicked witch. Twitchy (Cory Edwards) made me smile once or twice. But poor Glenn Close gets zero as Granny. And Hayden Panettiere is a very flat lead through both performance and script. What a waste of talent! Maybe the kids will like some of the frantic antics, but there are so many better options available on the animation market. I found this to be a real disappointment. While not perfect, the first one had charm and style--this is absolutely robotic and without heart.

3-D: I know this is the only element that some people care about, but what does it matter if you don't like the film? The original movie was criticized for its lack of sophistication in animation techniques. I thought it was fine, and I actually like the look of this movie. It's a bit old school, but the animation and the appearance of the characters quite appealed to me. The 3-D on the DVD presentation is serviceable, but not remarkable. There is not an over-abundance of out-of-screen moments, so most of the 3-D just layers the animation. Some of the moments where the camera glides (through the forest, etc) are well orchestrated, but nothing will move this viewing experience to the next level. KGHarris, 8/11.

The original Hoodwinked was a masterpiece. It used the tail of red riding hood to present the concept that a person might look one way on the surface but the truth can change on deeper inspection. I thought it was a GREAT movie to teach the concept of not judging until you have all the information. And it was done in a fresh and entertaining way.

Hoodwinked Too didn't have any point. It didn't go anywhere. It had no real underlying story to tell. It was just a pointless mish mash of plagiarized scenes from Spiderman 2, Star Wars (pod race), The Incredibles and others. About 5 minutes into the show I started thinking 'This is boring. I hope it picks up.' It did not.

Like other reviewers I had liked the original so well I was looking forward to the sequel. They must have fired the original writers. This is a looser.

I recently purchased Resident Evil: Deluxe Edition from Amazon.com. Having never seen this film before, I realized that I played a gamble with this DVD. However, I think I did alright.

For 11.49, you really can't go wrong. This film features non-stop action, suspense, and a semi-decent plot to go with the flow of the film. Mind you, the plot has the structural integrity of a block of swiss cheese. But, bear in mind that Resident Evil is not a film that was made with the intention of getting nominated for an Academy Award.

Movies of this genre require only 2 things:

1) A beautiful female lead who knows martial arts and can manipulate a 9mm with the finesse of a Parisian street artist (that is a compliment).

2) Lots of on-screen death and destruction. Resident Evil is chock-full of "#2". Zombies are shot at, kicked at, punched at, and even head-butted at one point I think.

Grab the popcorn and Coke. Dim the lights, and turn up the sound. For 12 dollars, I do not think you will be disappointed.

5 solid stars. Not for quality, but for pure entertainment value. Do NOT expect deep, thought-provoking dialogue, and thematic material from this film.

DO expect one hell of a ride....and with Milla driving, you'll definitely be in for a treat!

It was really funny when this DVD came out because it is titled "Resident Evil: DELUXE EDITION" and in actuality there are more special features on the original release. The only thing one could label "Deluxe" about this edition is that it has a small about a 2 minute clip from Resident Evil 2.

So, if you are looking to buy Resident Evil, then its a fun movie. But if your looking for "deluxe special features", then this is most definately the wrong place.

This was a taut, chilling, and surprisingly effective zombie kill fest. The opening with the lethal lock-down of the complex by the super-computer is at once coldly methodical, and deadly. Milla as the heroine has transformed markedly since her Fifth Element days, and does an admirable job as the anesthesia victim. This film really moves along at a great pace, the Marylyn Manson soundtrack kicks it up a notch along w/ the action sequences. A deadly virus is released in an underground research complex, the host computer kills all the scientists rather than risk external exposure of the virus. A security detail is dispatched to ascertain what went wrong, but are themselves targeted by the newly animated dead. One of the better of its breed to be sure, very polished and gritty at the same time. It works, recommended.

Honest reviews on Resident Evil (Deluxe Edition) (2002)

This movie is based on a video game that I have never played, so I can't comment on how the movie's plot follows the game. When the movie starts, there is a really cool aspect to it. A naked woman has just regained consciousness in her shower and can't remember anything. The next few minutes are packed with action, and a team of military personnel take them to the Hive (an underground research lab). Slowly each of them get filled in on the details of the mission. What that mission is, you'll have to watch the movie (or e-mail me) for.

The movie goes along great. The plot starts to materialize and things seem all right when all of a sudden the movie got derailed. Right about the point where the first living dead is discovered is when the film started to take a downturn. From then on it starts to resemble one of John Carpenter's films (particularly Ghosts of Mars. They even have the requisite train scene at the end. If you haven't seen this. Don't.) I was disappointed by this.

What I can say is that the lead actress Milla Jovovich gave it a good performance (as far as action flicks go), on top of being HOT. Sure, being the femme fetale and kicking butt is cliche nowadays. But you should see her in action.

LEAP rating (each out of 5):

L (Language) 3 (no unnecessary cursing)

E (Erotica) 3 (2 scenes with close to full body nudity, but tastefully done)

A (Action) 4 (living dead dogs were scarier than the living dead people, but their asses still needed to be kicked)

P (Plot) 3 (plot elements were well explained, no big surprises)

For not being faithful to the game, this movie was suprisingly great. This is the kind of movie where you get SO envolved in it that when it's over, you're just sitting there thinking 'man, that was just...WOW.' I was so shocked that it was so GOOD. I mean, when alot of people go to see a movie based on a game, they basically think 'you just wait, this is gonna be corny with no real plot.' Well, I THINK NOT! Of course, you know there's gonna be alot of critics out there that are going to terribly underrate RESIDENT EVIL. Take my advice, DO NOT LISTEN TO THEIR [comments]. I am so fed up with critics! What do they know? When YOU see a movie, YOU judge if YOU like it or not. EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT TASTES IN WHAT MOVIES THEY LIKE. Ok, enough said about that.

Milla Jovovich's acting alone is worth seeing this movie. She is, without a doubt, an amazing actress. The rest of the cast were really great as well.

The plot couldn't have been better. It's exciting and at the same time enjoyable. It's very hard to loose interest. I didn't mind the cliffhanger ending because I know there's gonna be a sequel.

I do have a warning. I usually don't put warnings in my reviews, but I think I should in this one. Ok, to start off, I saw RESIDENT EVIL on the day it released. I noticed that alot people were bringing in some very young children to see this movie. I'M TALKING ABOUT 5 AND 6 YEARS OLD!!! PLEASE people, use your heads!! OK, I think I got my point across.

WARNING: For people who are not familiar with or have never heard of the game, RESIDENT EVIL has strong scenes of violence and gore (not for the weak stomache). THERE ARE SOME DISTURBING DEATHS and alot of (well, of course) frightning scenes.

Overall, the movie is fantastic. The acting is top-notch, the plot is excellent with a suprising twist and the graphics are great.

So, if you're a fan of the game or horror/thriller movies, see this as soon as you can. I'm definitely gonna see it again. I can't wait till they release it on DVD!

(Oh yeah, one last thing: THE MUSIC ROCKS!)

Evil Bong 3: The Wrath of Bong!

After watching Evil Bong 3: The Wrath Of Bong, I have come to the realization that the Evil Bong series is one that if you like one you'll like them all, and if you dislike one you will dislike them all. What I'm getting at is that my opinion for each of the Evil Bong movies is exactly the same. All of them are inconsistently funny, but have enough laughs to warrant a recommendation if you like "late night comedies", as netflix labels them. Evil Bong 3 is about an alien bong that transports anyone who smokes from it to another planet. And you guessed it. All of our stupid heroes smoke from it. There is some alien nudity in this one, as well a few Avatar jokes. Just like the first Evil Bongs, the actor who played Gramps is my favorite thing about it. He is hilarious and has lots of colorful insults. Bottom line: If you like Evil Bong and Evil Bong 2, you should see this one. If you didn't, this one won't win you over. It's more of the same.

Brett, Bachman, and the gang are back for another far-out adventure in EVIL BONG 3! When an alien bong comes crashing to Earth, it will take the world's strongest-wait... bravest-wait... HIGHEST heroes to stop it! Anyone who smokes from the bong is instantly transported to the creature's homeworld, where hot alien babes work to harvest their seed in order to form an intergalactic army to invade Earth! Hot chicks stealing sperm after you get stoned? This kind of sounds like it should have been called "THE MOST AWESOME BONG EVER" instead! What more could your average pothead ask for than a film that features tons of weed, tons of nudity, and two trippy talking bongs... IN 3-D and Sniff-O-Rama?! Well, it will definitely take a couple of bongloads to get through this boring mess, and the amount you've smoked will determine whether this is the best or the worst movie you have ever seen. Full Moon has always been known for coming up with creative stories and entertaining effects on no money at all, but the low-budget in EVIL BONG 3 is more apparent than ever. Poorly dressed sets, a recycled plot, and lackluster special effects... This is a long ways off from 90's classics like SUBSPECIES or the PUPPET MASTER series. At least August White's script stays consistent with the two earlier entries, providing the same enjoyable characters and inane humor for a few stupid laughs. Pack that bong tight and grab your 3-D glasses if you hope to blast off with EVIL BONG 3!

Yes, Paul W Anderson, the director of Resident Evil Afterlife 3D, used the same Fusion 3D camera set up as Avatar, evidenced by the film credits and 3D featurette on the 3D Blu Ray, which also plays standard 2D. The 3D as a result, looks excellent and better than most 3D films out there, excluding Imax's Studio Nature productions. From the opening to the end, everything pops out far greater than you might have seen. The rain in RE:A3D looks spectacular and the depth really shines as though you're "in the movie". This is what 3DHDTV was made for. If you miss this and own a 3DTV, your loss if you like action movies.

The movie has elements of the Matrix's fight scenes and slow motion, with The Walking Dead's zombie infested city. The film covers Alaska, Tokyo and Los Angeles. The opening action scene is a highlight and really slick, packed with blazing machine guns and acrobatics. There's also a Axe man scene worth buying this disc for alone, and a cool but short end fight scene with RE5's Albert Wesker. The story is a basic "escape plan" movie, but in the RE style. This is the best one so far IMO.

The featurettes are 47 minutes total, and informative, including cast interviews. There's also a screen in screen presentation, director commentary track, deleted and extended scenes and more.

Overall, if you own or eventually plan to buy a 3DHDTV, buy this version for a few extra bucks, as it plays in regular 2D on regular HDTV's and players and looks great in 2D, but exceptional in 3D.

Movie: 8/10

3D: 9/10

Extras: 7/10

My ratings are based mainly on the QUALITY OF THE 3D, not the video content.

There are about 70 out of screen effects that extend about 10% of the way, from the screen to the viewer. Another 30 around 25%. At 8:00 minutes a tri-blade throwing knife reaches 40% and at 64:00 minutes, a large blood spatter drop exceeds 50%. Too many OOS effects to pick my favorites.

*** A MUST SEE 3D STATE OF THE ART AT ITS FINEST ***

*** Almost Continuous Action Blood, Guts, Gore and Horror ***

MY 3D RATING = EXCELLENT (poor, fair, good, very good, excellent)

Note: As far as the percentages go, everyone's eyes are different. What I see at 25% you may see at 15% or 35%. To fully realize how far something is out of the screen for you, pause on an effect and direct a partner with an extended finger to the tip of what you are seeing. You may be surprised.

I saw this at the movie theater in 3D (complete with special 3D glasses they handed out) and felt like I was right in it. Every bullet, star, punch, blast, you name it went right between my eyes. I sat 4 rows from the front (I couldn't get any closer without not seeing the whole screen) and was completely devoured by every creature. What an experience! Note I saw this at another movie theater that did not have the 3D version and I loved it but much prefer the 3D version. I have to say that if you love Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter you won't be disappointed. They look super hot and kick some serious butt! The two of them team up to defeat a 12 foot tall executioner dude with a massive ax/hammer. K-Mart makes an appearance at the end but doesn't say a word. No matter there WILL be a Resident Evil 5; I bet she'll speak in that one. PLEASE NOTE: Don't get up and leave after the credits start there is another minute of movie to go; and it explains how Resident Evil 5 will start! Go see this while it is still in the theater You will NOT be disappointed if you are a Resident Evil fan! Bon appetite!

Honest reviews on Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)

There isn't much more to say about this chapter than what has already been said in the product description and reviews. I'm giving it 3 stars because it delivered exactly what we expect from a RE movie. Action, action, action but no real substance. It really seemed like this movie was one of those "We'll force you to make this movie or we won't let you make the other movie you want." feeling. It felt like filler.

I don't normally write short, lack of information, reviews but there just isn't any more to say than what has already been said.

Needed to know before watching...Remember how in the last movie, Alice was now really powerfull and it looked like she would have an army of Alice's? The film makers decided, lets have everyone get drugged (yet again) and have their memories erased and this will explain why we are making yet another film. What??!! Wesker hits Alice with a serum to make her human again? But..He can still track her, she still survives a plane crash (just walks away)? When fighting, she still seems to have these abilities but they seemed dulled down. It was just something that bugged me about the plot from the start.

Buy it if you are a fan of Milla and the series but if you arent' a big fan, let it go. Rent it instead of buy it.

If you are a Resident Evil fan, you will love this movie. Of course, I have to say that there were some discrepancies throughout the movie. Overall, this movie promises to keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I will sure keep an eye on this DVD.

UPDATE: reading the other reviews I suddenly realize that I believe it's a great movie because I am a diehard fan who has read all the books, watched all movies and most importantly played most games, and that is why I did not need an explanation for most of the storyline. If this is your first Resident Evil movie, I suggest you first get familiar with previous movies and/or books. I am not going to go into details because I do not want to spoil. For fans this movie is not a let down in any way and the best thing is that an afterlife is not the end for this installment :D

The Resident Evil series has become one of the top selling titles for video game company CAPCOM. Known in Japan as "Biohazard", the series has sold over 34 million games and among the series, one of the most popular titles was the 1996 Sony Playstation game "Resident Evil 2' which introduced us to the characters of Racoon City rookie police officer Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield (sister of "Resident Evil 1' hero Chris Redfield).

The two were popular characters that fans enjoyed and in 2005, "Resident Evil 4' featuring Leon Kennedy became a huge hit earning "Game of the Year" by various publications.

With the popularity of the character of Leon Kennedy, how fitting was it when CAPCOM announced the reuniting of both Leon and Claire. As a fan of the video game series, I was definitely excited and couldn't wait to see the film. "resident evil: DEGENERATION" takes place seven years after "Resident Evil 2'.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

Picture quality is pretty good. The film is entirely in CG and was created in Maya. The CG was well done but not as fluid as "Final Fantasy: Advent Children" but still looked very impressive. The rendered character models were just great to look at (especially at the beginning when you see the airport or even the WilPharm HQ. Both look very realistic!) and Leon, Claire and Angela Miller model renders were just very well done. If anything, there is slight jerkiness when it comes to a close up of a character and trying to make it do natural and realistic movements during a conversation. But during the action scenes, the movements were very nice and overall, the CG was very well done.

If anything, fans of the video games will more than likely enjoy these CG rendered scenes.

As for audio, the audio is featured in Dolby Digital 5.1 and during the action scenes (which there are many), sound does come alive and sounds very good on my system. Dialogue is quite clear. As for the music, the ending theme "Guilty" is by Japanese music artist ANNA TSUCHIYA.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The DVD features quite a few special features which include:

* The Generation of DEGENERATION featurette This featurette interviews Makoto Kamiya and other CAPCOM staff and their goal with the film, why they used the actual English voice actors in terms of the motion capture (including having them learn how to hold a gun) and more behind-the-scenes footage on the creation of the film. Also, fan reaction at San Diego Comic Con.

* Character Profiles Profiles feature a text blurb on each character and you can access a video or photography profile (from parts of the film).

* Voice Bloopers This is more or less bloopers but not sure if it was intentionally created or if it was actual bloopers. One featured Leon Kennedy telling the others about his "fee". Quite funny to watch.

* Faux Leon Interview I'm not quite sure what this feature was about. A man is interviewing one of the motion capture actors and the actor is talking about working with Kamiya-san and others on the film.

* Resident Evil: Degeneration Trailers Trailers for the film

* Resident Evil: Degeneration Tokyo Game Show Trailer Tokyo Game Show trailer

* Resident Evil 5 Special Game Footage Promotional video for the upcoming Playstation "Resident Evil" game.

* Resident Evil 5 Game Trailers Trailers for the upcoming Playstation 3 video game.

Let me first say that I am a big fan of the "Resident Evil" series and I own nearly all the US releases. "Resident Evil 2' really was innovative when it first was released for the Sony Playstation and was my favorite R.E. game until "Resident Evil 4' was released and that video game was just incredible.

So, that being said, watching this film had me smiling because I absolutely adore both the characters of Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. How this film furthers the storyline of the two characters but also builds on certain situations that may have major ramifications for future video game releases is quite exciting.

So, with that being said, I enjoyed the film because the creators really wanted to pay homage to "Resident Evil 2' and "Resident Evil 4' video game series and its fans. But I realize that many people who are not familiar with the video game series are wondering how the context of this film is to the live-action film series featuring Mila Jovovich.

There is a relation by name and of course, the virus that turns people to zombies but really, this film was created for the fans of the video game series in mind.

Also, with this being a video game-related film, many who crave a deep storyline with character development of who is Claire and who is Leon may feel disappointed. The reason why video gamers who played the video games is that through those video game moments of playing these characters for hours, there was a vested interest.

I would assume that many viewers not familiar with the video game series won't pick up the importance of Claire or Leon to the actual "Resident Evil" storyline. In fact, some may wonder why they should care about these characters especially at the end with the politics surrounding the viruses.

So, with that being said, "resident evil: DEGENERATION" is an awesome film for those who followed the video game series. The film features plenty of non-stop action, bloody violence courtesy to the zombies and you even get a scene with blood that splatters on to the camera. But the enjoyment comes from those who had the experience of playing "Resident Evil 2' and "Resident Evil 4' and to see Claire and Leon again.

The CG looks great and there are some moments that I was just really in awe but at the same time, there are some movements that were jerky and robotic at times. But overall, the model renders were good and Leon and Claire look very good. So, the bottom line is that this film is just total fan service for "Resident Evil" video game fans. So much that I highly recommend this DVD.

For those who are not familiar with the video game series, you may enjoy it but if you are expecting a continuation of the live action films, then this DVD may not be for you. In fact, some may be disappointed because there is no strong plot for them to truly enjoy these characters especially without playing the video games. So, I can understand if they don't get into it.

Again, if you are fans of the "Resident Evil" video games, you can't help but have a smile on your face because there is now a "Resident Evil" film that was created with the RE video game fan in mind. And for that, I recommend this DVD for you!

I love Resident Evil and really enjoy the video games a lot even though I am not to much on the live action movies. With that said I was surprised that I liked this movie even though I didn't love it.

The video quality is pretty awesome in the blu ray version with pretty thing I noticed wasawesome sound. The one thing I noticed was the close up of faces are greatly detailed but from far away look like they have kind of a plastic coating or something that reminded me of Advent Children. I enjoyed certain scenes of the usually overdone slow motion, like when Leon throws Claire a handgun in the airport or Leon shooting a mutant in the face in the facility are really great. The animation is great but not really an as advanced as I hoped from when Advent Children. I did notice more vibrant colors and the flame effects are very good with fantastic lighting and rich blacks.

I was hoping for more of an open movie instead of being in claustrophobic atmospheres and Leon has too much perfect hair. Even at the end of the movie no one seemed roughed up to bad and their hair and faces remained intact unless you suffer from a case of zombiefacationism of course. Like I said earlier this movie surprised me that I enjoyed it. I wish it felt bigger and on a larger scale but the whole thing just felt small be it the amount of the immediate cast or the location. The only open part being the airport at the beginning and thank goodness they didn't make the whole thing based in the airport. The whole movie could have been a bunch of cut scenes from a video game like a new Resident Evil game and why so serious all the time Leon. I think I enjoyed this better than the current Resident Evil trilogy and wonder why this isn't the route they took instead of live action. The story doesn't feel like a movie but more part of a mini series which is why I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have by the end.

Fans of Resident Evil should watch since it is a nice inclusion and it didn't hurt the series or make it look bad. The blu ray is fantastic to show off its capabilities since it just looks so pretty even if sometimes character movements aren't always fluid and an occasional plastic texture face. Special features aren't the greatest but still nice to have and I guess they will have a special edition later. Though it is three stars for me I still enjoyed it and its a 5 star just for its picture and audio quality but that's not enough to warrant a purchase. Rent it if you love than give it a buy.

Best Deals for Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008)

I watched Degeneration in NY Horror Film Festival. At first I didn't expect a lot from this movie, cause the live action trilogy is very disappointing and I just didn't dare to expect it would be good, but it is. If you're an RE fan, it's a must-see movie. You won't be disappointed. Luckily the movie doesn't focus on fighting zombies too much. It is a drama/thriller. The movie successfully combines T & G-virus storyline fans are familiar with. Although not much character development, you can enjoy the story. CG part in my opinion is not as good as Final Fantasy. Characters' facial expression is a little stiff, and their "stares" are dull. Women look like they had plastic surgery. But these are not serious problems, just the technical parts they need to improve. Degeneration story is much better than FF. After watching its premiere, I can't wait to buy the DVD.

Honest reviews on Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008)

Having just completed Resident Evil 4 once again I was all revved up for Degeneration hoping for a continuation of the story with Leon Kennedy. All the RE games have followed a set template consisting of a lone armed man or woman fighting a hoard of undead and genetically altered beasts leading to a final confrontation with a powerful, virus infected human. The reason Capcom sticks with this formula is because it works but Degeneration breaks the pattern to its detriment. Zombie's (or virus infected human's) are present but no modified creatures. No embiggoned spiders or snakes or freaky dogs or sharks, just zombies and the inevitable G-Virus monstrosity who takes nearly half the film to destroy.

I was pleased to see that Leon is voiced by the same actor who played him in RE4. Problem is Leon looks a little bit off. Let me step back for a moment and say that the United States is clearly ahead of Japan in terms of computer generated visuals. The big problem in Degeneration is that even the living characters look undead. It appears to me that what the animators did was model the faces add some blinking and mouth movement and call it a day. The problem is it creates a very odd plastic look as if all the characters were wearing masks. The face they modeled for Leon looks like Leon except in a permanent scowl and his eyes are obscured by the shadow of his brow so you can scarcely see them. Clair looks even worse with an unexplainably odd mouth rendering. The still shots look fine but her facial movements just aren't working and character motions often look mechanical.

I really wanted to like this one. Unlike the live action movies it's put out by Capcom so I assume that it will be integrated into the series canon and I would expect to see it referenced in future games. Too bad the plot is so flat and uninspiring that maybe it doesn't even matter. There are no interesting characters like Luis Sera, Krauser, Saddler, Salazar and Chief Mendez. In Degeneration we get the laughably evil Senator Ron Davis, Fredrick Downing, Curtis Miller and Leon's potential love interest, the forgettable Angela Miller.

My only complaint with RE 4 was that it wasn't scary. It was often creepy but never scary. Degeneration takes it even further by being neither scary nor creepy. That's not quite true; the mannequin like appearances of the characters is kinda creepy. Degeneration is pure action which seems to be the unfortunate direction that Capcom is taking the series. The extra features are actually pretty good and if you watch the preview for Resident Evil 5 there is a clear tie to Degeneration. This is a pretty exciting time for Resident Evil fans and I hope they continue to make these movies but this first effort is pretty disappointing with a lot of room for improvement.

I've been a huge Resident Evil fan for sometime and after the atrocity that was the 3rd live action movie, I was hoping a CG venture would put things back on course. While this move was fun and enjoyable, the plot didn't feel like it was all there. Had it been fleshed out better and made care about the characters, I probably would've scored it higher. While playing out better than Advent Children did, it still has that same awkward feel. The movie was only 96 minutes long. Had they gone longer, I felt they could've done much more with the story and greatly improved the flow of the film.
