I bought this with high hopes. I couldn't find any reviews for it. I am a huge fan of 3D documentaries. After watching documentaries such as Under the Sea and Deep Sea, you have a certain expectation. As far as content, I don't expect anything different. A coral reef is a coral reef.

The Good:

-The only thing positive is there is a lot of pop out at certain places. However, the depth is of the backgroud is not there. It seems very flat with the fishing floating. The good isn't that great.

The Bad:

-This appears to have been made for a college class. The quality of the camera and pictures is par at best.

-The music is absolutely horrible. It is techno at times.

-Was this the first time for the camera man being underwater? There are scenes where it looks like something I would do filming my son's birthday party. My son is in the picture, he is almost out. You see the turtle, you see a tiny piece of the turtle as the camera moves up and down or side to side.

-The camera stays on uninteresting scenes for a long time. There are fish swimming. You watch them swim. No narration. The pictures is not good.

I don't think the makers of this cared about the quality, but pushing out a product.

Bottom line, do not waste your money. I wouldn't purchase it again, even if it was $5. If a family member leaves it to you in their estate, maybe watch it for some of the pop out early. That is probably it.

The main problem with this DVD is light. Or lack of it. Both artificial and natural daylight.

This is either because it was shot on dull days, where the natural light has not penetrated deep enough to show the reef colours, or the artificial light is not good enough.

I suspect both.

In some scenes it is obvious that the only artificial light is a separately hand held underwater torch.....which bounces around all over the place. It simply isn't wide angled anough to light the subject and surrounds.

The overall effect is an underlit, very blue reef. The whole point of diving a coral reef is to see the fantastic colours. You just don't get that here. Add to that some dreadful over exposure and I was left thinking I was watching an amateur's holiday video.

Totally unprofessional camera work just adds to the impression that this is a very poor quality professional film.

There is no close up photography at all.

I was going to give this 2*, but changed my mind when I saw that the 5* review here was simply advertising by the filmaker. They have an identical review on another of their underwater DVDs.

This is completely dishonest and probably illegal by Amazon's terms & conditions, so it gets a 1*.

I have two other rented 3D DVDs that are way better than this, Amazing Ocean & Imax Deep Sea. I haven't decided which one of those I prefer, but I really wouldn't recommend Fascination Coral Reef to anyone. Amazing Ocean is good and I will review them once I've had a chance to revisit both.

This has some 3d effects, but no actions. It looks like somebody went underwater, shot something and made a documentary based on what they have captured. Thay say many things, but not showing that like in Imax deep sea.

I wish I had read a more critical review before purchasing this DVD, so here's mine:

Beautiful photography and wish I'd seen it in an IMAX theatre. As this is supposed to be a film about CORAL REEFS, however, you'd expect that alot of it would take place UNDERWATER..... It doesn't. .... Too much coverage of "human drama", with an islander's disappointment in the dying reef near his island, one of the diver's brush with the bends (but you know it will all be wrapped-up in a happy ending, right?), and photographers flying and boating around tropical islands. Personally, I had been looking for more photography and more real information on coral reefs --fascinating beautiful creatures with plenty of interesting drama on their own.

Soundtrack features great music, but the editing of which makes viewing the film quite annoying. You're listening carefully to Liam's relaxing voice and all-too-brief interesting commentary on the subject matter and then BOOM!, your hit with CSN at a volume that has you scrambling for the remote to turn it down three notches.

Overall, its a film that wants to be everything for all interests. Sure ! ...In 45 minutes?

I didn't know what to expect from this film that I saw at an IMAX Theater but I knew I had to see it. I'm a scuba diving enthusiast and I love coral reefs. Coral Reef Adventure is an eco tour of reefs and the dangers that exist for this delicate ecosystem. We follow Howard and Michele Hall, underwater photographers and authors, in their study of coral reefs to help Rusi Vulakoro, a diver in Fiji, to discover the cause of a dying reef.

Much of the underwater footage is from the Great Barrier Reef, Fiji, and French Polynesia. To say the images are breath taking is an understatement. Watching this film just re-enforced why I love to dive. I love the sea and all its wonder. At the end of the film a small child sitting in front of me told his parents that's what he wanted to do when he grows up, that is dive for a living. I love that so I told his parents about my dive club that teaches diving and has a program for children to play in to pool with dive equipment. There is nothing like seeing a wee one learning to dive.

As for the diving, it was exciting. The divers in this film are experienced professional divers and therefore they dive to depths all recreational divers should stay clear of. In the film you'll see depths of 350 and get a real feel for the wonder of scuba diving. Also, there was a guest appearance by Jean-Michele Cousteau; son of famed Jacque Cousteau, father of scuba diving. I also took a good look of the equipment that was used and was amazed at the use of re-breathers. I want a re-breather now.

Anyway, you'll see lots of coral, fish, manta rays, gray sharks, drift diving, incredible depths, and beautiful scenery. The film was incredibly educational and made me think of all the adventure I am missing. This is another film to spark your wonder lust for adventure and instill a respect for nature.

As a half-century scuba diver who has been diving Fiji, the Great Barrier Reef, Moorea and Tiputa Pass in Rangiroa over the years, I can vouch for the authenticity and genuine beauty of this splendid documentary, as well as for the unfortunate reality of the threats to these areas. In particular, we have been diving Fiji's Bligh Waters for years, most often with Rusi Vulakoro (also an excellent singer) who appears prominently in this production. Rusi and Jean-Michel Cousteau demonstrate some of what they are doing to preserve this paradise.

The McGillivray-Freeman production and Michele and photography is top notch, and our friends Rob and Cat, owners of the liveaboard dive boat NAI'A used for the filming, guided Howard and Michele Hall to all our favorite sites their cinematography is superb, in spite of the major problems faced by using the huge and unwieldy IMAX system. Those interested in scuba diving, some of the world's best dive spots and the state of the ocean will love this DVD and come away convinced we should never have called this planet, 70.78% of which is covered by the world's oceans and water, "Earth."

If you own a high end HTPC (home theater personal computer), and a HD capable display, you owe it to yourself to buy this movie. Simply put, the Microsoft WMV transfer in high definition (both 720p and 1080p) is the best image I have ever seen on our home theater's very expensive projection system($30k JVC Lcos system).

There are some downsides....

1) Requires a very beefy computer. 3.0 Ghz is recommended by Microsoft, although some are getting away with lower powered machines by using the lower-quality 720p verion

2) Proprietary audio codec requires you to have the computer decode the audio, and send it to your amplifier via analog cables. There is no DTS or DD track on the HD version.

3) DRM You have a choice of one video player, Windows Media 9. The movie has digial rights management on it, which can only be viewed by a Microsoft player. While this implementation is much better than the T2 high definition release (which required you to have an internet connection to get authorization), it's still a bit limiting.

Despite the problems, This is right up there with the best film based HDTV content I have viewed from HDnet or HD HBO.

I just ordered this from Amazon because of the selling price of $11.00 free shipping. I'm SO glad I took the chance. This is an AMAZING blu-ray disc. The quality of the sound is as good, if not better, than the picture quality. Fantastic underwater photography will have you in awe. If you're into this sort of thing, this is a MUST have for your blu-ray collection.

I should have listened to Leopold. Despite the stunning color and clarity of the front cover, that is not what most of this movie shows. Very little professional lighting was used and so, the colors where bland. I did learn some things listening to the narrator but all in all I felt I wasted $15.00 buying it.

the movie have some nice effects but the light and the colors are bad...the storyline is very boring

i like the imax-movies much more!

I have over 50 3d movies and documentaries and i've seen 1 star 3d's and this is not one of them. granted it's not IMAX UNDER THE SEA ( which is the best of them all) or IMAX DEEP SEA (second best) but it's not terrible. Though the negatives do outweigh the positives. CONS: Some scenes do have what appears to be smudge marks on the lens, it looks blurry and there is some glare now and then. Also 80% of this is just fish swimming around, there is a sea turtle that looks great and a few dolphins, so the content is a little boring. But the number 1 annoyance is the narration, believe everything you read from other reviews about it. from pronunciation, childlike tone, uninteresting comments, it's all true. The solution for this is to go into the settings and change to MUSIC ONLY setting, it's so much better. PROS: there are some really good 3d scenes, nothing really WOW (like IMAX UNDER THE SEA) but decent, the dolphin scenes look really good. Overall the majority of the picture quality is quite good. The music is fine. So in conclusion if you factor in the low price, and you watch this with MUSIC ONLY setting, I would have to recommend it. But if you can get only one underwater 3d definitely get IMAX UNDER THE SEA. Although this one is only a third the price of IMAX UNDER THE SEA. So you get what you pay for.

Probably not filmed with the best 3D equipment. Didn't pop out of the screen as I expected. The narration is not very pleasant since the voice is too high pitched. Oprah, Morgan freeman, David Attenborough have a smooth voice that makes the narration almost a background noise. The narration on this draws attention to itself and takes away from the experience.

Honest reviews on Adventure Coral Reef 3D - Under the Sea of Egypt (Blu-ray 3D & 2D

I cannot believe this film is from the Peter Lord, maybe just someone else with the same name!

Unfortunately this film is not even worth the $10 cost.

While it is filmed using 3D technology the overall quality is amateur at best, such as:

No post color correction, so the images are mostly green and lack the true colors of the reef.

Improper or no color filters were used so the color spectrum is false, flat and lackluster.

When used, video lights are too close to the lens resulting in excessive and distracting backscatter.

The editing is silly, the same shots are repeated, scenes jump back and forth with little or no continuity to the script.

The script is like a student reading from a first year book on ichthyology.

So, the camera equipment was top notch, but narration and general setting was pathetic. There are so many better ones out there, and it really seems like people are just rushing to make a quick buck on 3D content without focusing on quality at all.
