I had seen few Science Fiction Movies (including 3D) at Imax theatres; and wandered & enjoyed the

Dinausaurs in science museums.

The quality of the dinosaurs in this 3D movie is quite impressive and their movements are so close to

being realistic as they are so believable. The 3D is good and the panoramic views shown are good as you

can get. The soundtrack was excellently in harmony to the movie itself and the narration is inviting and

captivating to listen to.

Overall, this is a high quality 3D movie especially the "Features" part added to this DVD (even it is in

2D); and you will never be tired in watching it multiple times. Forget about the "1 Star" critics as they

will never be capable of understanding the hard & great works undertaken by the filmmakers of this

movie; just order this 3D movie through Amazon.com and enjoy it whilst you can.

I have had a lifelong fascination with dinosaurs. Let me tell you, there are so many compelling and interesting programs or movies pre-existing within the marketplace--it's almost impossible to bring something new to the table. With the latest IMAX 3D creation "Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia," it seems an almost can't miss proposition. But you have to ask two questions: Is the narrative of interest or unique? Is the 3D a particular selling point?

Narrative: Unfortunately, there is not much new ground broken in this rather lackluster presentation. An expressionless narration by Donald Sutherland introduces us to a scientist and several creatures that seemed to inhabit the same area of South America. It is, in truth, a very dry presentation and the scientist lacks any real impact. The creature creation is nice (even if the beasts are quite familiar)--I'd say a step up from previous features such as "Dinosaurs Alive!" But again, if you watch these types of programs on TV--nothing here is particularly out of the ordinary. Even at 40 minutes, I was ready for this to hit its conclusion.

Features: A eclectic documentary is included that runs a tad longer than the actual feature. It combines some making-of information with some 3D technology information with plenty of footage not used in the film with some bizarre Monty Python type animation. It really just plays as an extension of the main film, so whether you find this an interesting addition or not depends on how much you enjoyed the film. I wouldn't choose to watch it again.

3D: The film graphics and vistas look fine. This can be a very pretty film even if it's dramatically inert. The precision of the 3D is most effective on these landscape shots, and the setting is absolutely lovely. Of course, there are a number of dinosaurs that poke their heads at you or walk over you. The still close-ups provide exciting detail and are crisp. Some of the movement shots, however, can have a bit of a shimmering effect. Though not groundbreaking, and with a fair share of ghosting, I thought this certainly wasn't the strongest 3D presentation. But honestly, without a compelling narrative--even the best 3D would lose impact. KGHarris, 3/11.

Honest reviews on Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia (2006)

We bought a 3D television just before the holidays, and we wanted to buy the grandkids a 3D DVD apiece for Christmas. Our grandson loves dinosaurs, so this seemed like the perfect DVD for him. It is slow in parts, and his interest wanes, but for the most part, he loves it. I would recommend this to anyone.

I watched it with my four year old grandson. He got a little scared a couple of times. I thought it was pretty good though.

These are very cute stories mainly for the 3 6 year old crowd. How do dinosaurs say goodnight? sometimes very naughtily at times. Zin Zin A Violin would be of great use to music teachers. The other stories as A Big, Big Pond and All of the Colors of the Earth are very good stories too. Altogether, a very nice DVD, like all Scholastic DVDs.

I was hoping there would be more "How Do Dinosaurs Say..." stories on the DVD but there isn't. My 3-yr-old son and 4.5-yr-old daughter still enjoy watching them, though not as often as the Very Hungry Caterpillar DVD.

this is a favorite at bedtime. We have most of the series and this is a consistent must-read. there is also a video of the book distributed by scholastic (I think). It has the same illustrations as the book, some animation with someone reading the book. Anyone with kids that love dinosaurs will find this is a great read and speaks to a kid's imagination.

First things first, make sure you're aware of what you are actually going to be viewing! I completely expected this to be along the lines of Walking With Dinosaurs, where the movie would be largely, if not entirely, composed of CGI dinosaurs and their history. But this is not what we get sure, there are quite a few clips of different dinosaurs, including my son's favorite, the velociraptor, but this is largely a video following paleontologists, with CGI clips thrown in. This is an interesting viewing, with many pieces of information that I did not know. We have a 3 1/2 year old who is obsessed with dinosaurs, and I felt that he would never want to view this again because of the lack of dinosaurs, but I was wrong. It is now his most highly requested video to view of course this is over the period of a week you know how long that lasts!

That being said, if you walk into this knowing that you will see CGI dinosaur clips, as opposed to an entire video of dinos, you will be very happy with this title. I viewed the blu-ray version, and the video is clear and crisp I like how older videos that would not be in HD are letterboxed into a small portion of the screen, with an HD background filling the rest of the screen. All in all, 3.5 stars is rounded up to 4 interesting, recommended, but not a MUST own for our family.

With so many incredible dinosaur dvd's like When Dinosaurs Roamed America and Walking With Dinosaurs, this dinosaur dvd just doesn't cut it. It is not exciting and is missing much key information. Maybe when it was in the IMAX and 3D it was amazing to view, but nothing special for home viewing.

Originally created for exhibition in IMAX theaters, Dinosaurs Alive! is a DVD documentary that uses computer animation to bring mankind's discoveries about dinosaurs to life from the revelation that "Oviraptor" was in fact a good parent who brooded over its eggs rather than a rapacious egg thief, to the story of a real-life "Indiana Jones" archaeology pioneer who braved desert bandits to bring home amazing fossil finds, to the shocking recent discovery that (flightless) velociraptors had feathers! The astonishing and scientifically accurate CGI is sure to thrill dinosaur lovers of all ages and backgrounds. Special features include a widescreen version, a "Making of" documentary shot in HD, and a bonus quiz. Also available in a Blu-ray version, "Dinosaurs Alive" is a treat for dinosaur lovers everywhere and enthusiastically recommended for public library DVD collections. 40 minutes plus special features.

Honest reviews on Dinosaurs Alive

My ratings are based mainly on the QUALITY OF THE 3D, not the video content.

There are about 16 out of screen effects that extend 10% of the way, from the screen to the viewer. Another 7, very brief dino tail whips reached 25%. The best few OOS effects were during the closing credits of dinosaurs' heads protruding through the words.

EXCESS PARALLAX in about 65% of the scenes, (a disturbing amount). This IMAX film should have never been released to the public in this poor state, shame on them.

*** AVOID UNLESS YOU WANT TO SEE 3D GONE WRONG !!! ***

MY 3D RATING = POOR (poor, fair, good, very good, excellent)

Note: As far as the percentages go, everyone's eyes are different. What I see at 25% you may see at 15% or 35%. To fully realize how far something is out of the screen for you, pause on an effect and direct a partner with an extended finger to the tip of what you are seeing. You may be surprised.

This blu-ray effectively covers most aspects of the dinosaur story, how they live, behave, hunt and be hunted and how their remains became fossilized which are being unearthed even today by paleontologists whose works are documented in this story. The high definition gives us stunningly clear and majestic landscapes of the Gobi desert and the sandstone areas of New Mexico where most of the dinosaur bones are recovered. However, what really sets this dvd apart is the amazing and accurate representations through CGI of the dinosaurs found in the regions. They literally come to life on your screen and if your speakers are set up for DTS-HD, your neighbours will probably hear their primitive roars. There was also the discovery of a fossilized embryo (or is it foetus) and maybe the crew of Jurrasic Park could extract the DNA directly instead of looking for prehistoric mosquitoes! All in, a recommended collection for both dinosaur buffs and the curious homo-sapien. What prevented me from giving this a 5-star is that I felt more dinosaur species (brought to life through CGI)could be covered like Triceratops, Brontosaurus, etc. Also there is a lack of an epic battle, for example, between a Tyrranosaurus rex and perhaps a pack of raptors. This would make the dvd more movie-like without compromising on accuracy and scientific facts.

Took my nephew to see it and he loved it. I thought it was hilarious as well. Why can't some of you people just enjoy the movie for its entertainment? Is there a need to pick everything apart? Wahhh waahhh just another sequel to make more money. Ok? Who cares. I thought the dinosaurs were extinct in the first one. Again who cares!! Enjoy the freakin movie!

I have to disagree with reviewers who try to "see" too many things in a movie made mainly for (young) kids. This movie made my child and me laugh many, many times. In fact I think it is even funnier than Ice Age 1+2. It is just "clean" family fun. In this age of over-hyped animation from Walt Disney and Pixar, how refreshing to watch something without too many pretensions and not too much relation to today's world. Let the kids be kids, please.

Honest reviews on Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (Blu-ray / DVD + Digital Copy) (2009)

This movie is still cute and fun even with the third installment. My husband and I saw it in 3D at the theater just for fun and also to screen it before taking our grandkids. We think it is the kind of movie you can enjoy with your children at the theater. We will buy the DVD because we know our grandkids will want to watch it over and over again like the previous two movies. The 3D is interesting but not necessarily worth the extra cost. Just have fun and enjoy it like a child does. Yes, Scrat and his acorn stole the show again.

The dinosaur animation is rudimentary (nothing like 'Jurassic Park' or 'Walking With Dinosaurs') and the video quality variable. Mainly useful as a demonstration of the Pulfrich effect (darker images take longer to reach the brain): the 3D sequences are quite successful.
