This 3D double bill unpretentiously features some of the best 3D imagery ever, including some great "pop-out" effects. The Spy Kids romp might be more appealing to adults because its cast includes Sly Stallone, Salma Hayak, Antonio Banderes, and Ricardo Montalban.

This is definitely a Comic Book / Video Game type films. There are some fun sequences that are aimed at kids. Adults should find the visual effects interesting. Each is more of an amusement ride than a normal movie. These films are more like watching someone play video games.

Used to have the 2d versions of these that my neice and nephew used love to watch when they came over and since the price was right @ $14.99 for both movies in 3d I couldn't pass them up (buy mostly 3d movies nowadays). They may not be Oscar material but they are fun and even more so in 3d.

This is the first hollywood blockbuster released in field-sequential (FS) 3D. The red and blue glasses were used in the theaters and in the first DVD release, but this release is much better than the first. This version works with the shutter-glasses type of 3D system, which is fairly easy to get your hands on. It's available at Amazon in the Ultimate 3D Collection, which comes with 3 3D Imax flix (stay away from the Ultimate 3D Horror Collection! The three films that come with it are not genuine 3D films--read my review there). This type of 3D really pops off the screen in full color without the distracting red/blue glasses, and it's quite amazing that a mainstream movie has been converted to a somewhat underground viewing format. "3D Transitions", another FS DVD here at Amazon is a good companion to this. I have also purchased the HQFS (High Quality Field Sequential) version of Santa vs. The Snowman, but I haven't had a chance to watch it. Also, there are numerous older 3D movies available for this system, but most are less-than-legal versions of Jaws 3D, Friday the 13th Part III in 3D, House of Wax, It Came From Outer Space, etc. These are easy to find on auction sites as well as some private sites.

There is no way on earth, or any other planet or dimension for that matter, that this movie could be related to the first two Spy Kids movies. The same actors appear to be present, but I'm guessing that they have been replaced by emotionally-incapable robots with their charm programme removed.

Instead of a plot, almost the entire movie is spent inside an extremely confusing computer game with incomprehensible rules, controlled by the evil Toymaker (Sylvester Stallone, what have you gotten yourself into?) The robot battle scene was very imaginative, and also the bike race and the lava surfing, but having to watch it with 3D glasses spoiled the movie for me. I wear spectacles, and was unable to see the effects clearly while wearing both pairs. Taking them off just made it worse, and the version I bought didn't have a 2D version included.

Just for information, Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino only appear in this movie as cameos, as all the action centers around Juni (Daryl Sabara), Carmen (Alexa Vega) and Grandpa (Ricardo Montalban). Small parts were adequately filled by Elijah Wood and Salma Hayek, and there are guest appearances by everybody who was in the first two movies.

For fans of Alexa Vega, like my four year old son, there are some music videos in the extras that are worth a look.

Not up to the standard of the first two Spy Kids movies.

Everybody is being so annoying over how the 3D isn't great or how there is no plot. First of all, that is the whole point, it is a fun cheesy exciting movie for kids. Half the time anyone takes thier kids to the movies there is hardly anything going on that keeps them interested, even if it is a cartoon or whatever.

SpyKids 3D wanted to make this movie experience a very different one for kids and adults, an exciting one where in order to see the movie, you need special glasses. Fine the 3D isn't Imax status but it was intended to have video game graphics, hence the title, game over!

For anyone who has ever had a Viewmaster (you know, those little binocular looking toys that project images with circular discs) well, you get that kind of 3D in this movie. Rodriguez was celebrating the 50 year anniversary of 3D (stereoscopy) in itself.

For anyone looking for things to pop out of the screen and hit em in the head, go stand in front of a bus, but for those of you who appreciate an escape from the real world into fantasy, red/blue lenses and all, than you will definately enjoy this movie.

Director Robert Rodriguez seems determined to keep the "Spy Kids" franchise alive at all costs. "Spy Kids: All The Time In The World" is essentially a reboot as opposed to a true sequel as it launches viewers upon the adventures of a new central family. Yes, original kids Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara are on hand as grown counterparts of themselves, but it feels as if they are passing the torch to the younger generation. While this, the fourth in the series, has much of the visual inventiveness you've come to appreciate from Rodriguez, it does lack some of the easy charm of the first couple of pictures. Trading cleverness for obvious humor, though, has its drawbacks. Thankfully, on on-demand, we are spared the theater's Aroma-Scope scratch cards that surely promised a plethora of unpleasant smells. (For the record, I liked it when John Waters did it, but that was a different story entirely). The movie plays to a certain demographic--if you think passing gas, vomit, and other bodily emissions are hysterical, this might be just up your alley. I always hear the argument "but the movie is for kids" when people are defending entertainment of this type, but the point seems rather irrelevant when you think of all the good kids' movies with genuine smarts.

Jessica Alba plays Vega and Sabara's aunt. She, too, is a spy. Upon giving birth to her daughter, she decides to quit this dangerous occupation to focus on her new baby, husband (Joel McHale), and step kids (Rowan Blanchard and Mason Cook). However, when a nefarious mastermind starts moving time forward at an alarming rate--the fate of the very world is in jeopardy. She has had prior dealings with another criminal who holds the key to this mystery, so she is drafted back into service. This being "Spy Kids," though, Blanchard and Cook are soon up to their little necks in danger as well. Will these darn kids be able to save humankind? I won't ruin the surprise. Jeremy Piven is cast as Alba's superior at the agency, and Ricky Gervais provides unusual support. Everyone is game and, as I said, certain visuals are fun to watch. But that being the case, I found most of the actual humor forced and flat. There are only so many times passing gas can effectively be used as a punchline!

The movie, despite its slapstick silliness, wants to have its share of warm moments as well with the family drawing closer. I never really responded to Blanchard, though, who needed more discipline than understanding. I love Jeremy Piven, who despite having a large role, is never given any real comedy. And Gervais, to my mind, is a comic genius but his running monologue is uninspired and obvious. All the elements were here to make a good picture, I even liked the plot well enough--the screenplay just needed that extra push to make it more fun and funnier. Mostly for the kids, I can't really make this much of a recommendation. It's easy enough to watch (since I didn't have to smell it), I just wanted to laugh along. Overall, about 2 1/2 stars but I'll round up for the kiddies. KGHarris, 11/11.

My kids ages 5 and 7 really liked this film, so I decided to rate it 4 stars, although on my own I would have given it 3 (I am not the target demographic after all.) I think Antonio Banderas and Alexa Vega lifted these films a bit in the past, and without them, it is feeling tired. In this one, a new generation of parents and kids are introduced, and they do OK, but lack the charisma of the original. The tone of the movie is different too much more focus on humor, and a fair amount of slapstick. The highlight for me was Ricky Gervais voicing a robotic dog he gets some of the best lines of the film, although my kids didn't quite get him. Jeremy Piven has some good moments as a two-faced agent/villain, but he also overplays it at times. Jessica Alba and Danny Trejo are fine, but don't compare to Banderas and Vega.

The plot is so-so, although I did appreciate the stepmother/blended family theme, as I do think that is relevant to many modern families. I also appreciated that even though this is an action movie, it is more focused on humor than violence. And as I said, my kids really loved it, they were riveted throughout, so for a family film, that gets it to 4 stars in my book.

3-D: For those with 3-D technology, the film comes across well in that regard. The fanciful scenes have a real depth with the extra dimension, but there aren't really out-of-screen shots to take it to the next level. Neither the best or worst the technology has to offer, this doesn't elevate the movie to a different level of quality. Overall, about 2 1/2 stars but I'll round up for the kiddies. KGHarris, 11/11.

We keep renting this over and over. My 5 year old is obsessed with the movie. She keeps asking to watch it over and over again.

My 5 year old daughter laughs her head off when the dog keeps cutting the cheese, and describing it.

To kids who love to hear about poop and gas, the jokes are pretty funny. My kids laughed really hard when the baby diaper of poop was thrown in the bad guys face. They thought it was hilarious. My kids laughed when the green goop that was gross fell onto the kid.

My child also loved the concept of the kids becoming spies. She was even talking about being a spy for Halloween possibly.

Ok, I've got really mixed feelings about this one. After Level 1 Volume 1 I was really excited, but when we got this one I was just left scratching my head and asking "why"

Objectively speaking its a fine Langauge DVD, its pretty comparable with others I've seen on the market and if you get it your kids will learn something. So its ok, just not great.

My big issue with this DVD relates in its comparison to Level 1 Volume 1 of the same series.

First its THE EXACT SAME MATERIAL! The first disk covered it pretty well, why am I forking out for another disk to go over the same words and scenarios in a slightly different format? Maybe there wasn't enough pizazz in the first disk? There is some material in this disk that wasn't covered in disk one, but its less than 10% of the total content.

The presentation on this disk is somewhat different. The same words and elements (following Billy and Bemboo on his day, family members, trip to the farm, parts of the body etc). Each segment covers more or less the same info it did in disk 1. The differneces are that instead of using flash type animation its now a combination of "live" video and 3D video. The narrator is now some guy named Andre who's dressed up in a really lame tree costume. Instead of Flash animation we now have live video of Billy and his family. Bemboo is now a GCI dog and does more speaking. Different segments (like the farm trip) are now done in full 3D CGI in a style similar to the Animation from Veggie Tales.

I suppose its ok but it just seems to break the continutity up (especially the live action where the freeze the video and voice the word being taught). There is also a segments that if you don't choose movie only that will go into an "interactive" mode where you have to choose the right choice to match the term on the screen. I suppose thats a plus if you happen to be handy with the remote and watching it with your kids. Otherwise it slows it down and their attention drifts elsewhere.

On the plus side they Chinese speakers have better pronounciation (so says the mainlander).

So is it better or worse than Volume 1? Depends on your preferences I guess, I think its a step down and watching my kids lack of interest tends to tell me I'm right. It just falls into the category of an average langauge DVD vs its exceptional predicessor. But maybe your kids will respond better to the new presentation. There is a little bit more material in this one than the first one but its mostly the same, you could skip it and not miss much.

Pros-

Fair presentation

Good selection of material

Good pronounciation

Cons (if you already own the first volume)

Same material as the first one

Not as engaging

I've already purchased vol.1 and vol. 2 of the Language Tree Learn Chinese videos. My nieces and nephews and family friends' kids really love the videos, especially the songs. These videos were able to hold their attention more so than the Ni Hao or Follow Jade series. The production, which includes pop songs in Chinese, 3D animation, and interactive games, is much more professional than other videos we've seen. We hope Language Tree comes out with a volume 3.

Great gift idea as well -keeps the kids occupied while learning something at the same time!

Spy kid movies are great for younger children (5+). They have a positive message and contain action sequences, but not gratuitious violence a good age-appropriate alternative for my five year old son who wants to watch Transformers!

The Spy Kids Trilogy is a cost effective option for purchasing all the movies that have been release to DVD (does not include Spy Kids 4, which was recently released at the movie theatre). The trilogy includes two versions of Spy Kids 3 regular and 3D. Please note that the 3D verion is not the kind that is compatible with the new 3D blu-ray players and HD TVs it is "old school" 3D with blue/red paper 3D glasses (two pairs are included with the trilogy).

The Spy Kids series are no work and good to just sit down with on a rainy Sunday and watch with the little ones.

The three pack we received had some type of issue and simply would not play in the main CD player, but loaded up very well on the CD player in the bedroom. The CD player was checked with other CD's and worked fine. Definately the CD's, and all three had the same problem.

That said the movies make no pretence, they are family fun and aimed at the pre-teen age group.

With that in mind none can be said to be low budget, the acting is good even from the children, the sets are reasonable quality and the storylines very acceptable for that demographic.

They even work as quiet escapism for adults who haven't really quite grown up yet.

Overall 4 stars, but keeping in mind the target audience, the lack of gore and nastieness, the absence of swearing and abuse that make it all just good clean fun I'd have given 5 stars if they'd played in both machines.

An inexpensive purchase that is certainly not regretted.
